NIT Rourkela is set to offer four new academic programs in the 2026-27 session, with a focus on emerging technologies. The institute will introduce Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) courses in Mathematics and Computing and Engineering Physics. Additionally, two Master of Technology (M Tech) programs in Semiconductor Devices and Technology, and Machine Learning and Signal Analysis are being launched.

These initiatives are in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing interdisciplinary and industry-oriented learning to equip a skilled workforce for the deep-tech and knowledge economy. Dean (Academic) Prof Ashok Kumar Turuk highlighted the courses' aim to enhance education in physics and mathematics, crucial in driving technological advancements and industrial transformation.

Prof Jyoti Prakash Kar noted the alignment of these programs with national missions, such as the India Semiconductor Mission. The launch aims to support research and workforce development in strategic tech sectors, including quantum technologies, AI, and advanced manufacturing.
