In a significant development, Susan Elias has taken on the role of the principal at St Stephen's College, becoming the first woman to do so in the institution's 145-year existence. Her appointment, confirmed on Monday, has proceeded despite objections from Delhi University (DU).
The university had raised concerns about the appointment, citing potential violations of University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations. Following this, DU sought intervention from UGC and addressed their objections in letters. Meanwhile, former principal John Varghese's future at the college remains uncertain as discussions continue regarding his potential role in the faculty.
