Finland and India to Enhance Skilled Professional Mobility by 2025

The Finnish Ambassador to India, Kimmo Lähdevirta, expressed optimism about finalising an agreement with India by 2025 to ease the movement of skilled professionals, students, and researchers between the two countries. This mobility agreement is seen as a step forward from the 2022 declaration of intent.

Highlighting the need for skilled manpower, the ambassador identified sectors like ICT, healthcare, and services as key to both nations. Currently, around 20,000 Indians are employed in Finland, with significant representation in global companies like Nokia and the startup ecosystem.

In a significant collaboration, Finland will partner with India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, alongside the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, to host the World Circular Economy Forum in India in autumn 2026. The event is anticipated to attract thousands to discuss circular economy practices.
