Japan's Emperor Naruhito, together with Empress Masako, paid tribute to the victims of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, marking the 80th anniversary of the event. During their visit, the royal couple bowed solemnly and offered white flowers at the cenotaph dedicated to the victims.

The Hiroshima bombing, carried out by the United States on August 6, 1945, resulted in the death of 140,000 people. A second bomb on Nagasaki claimed 70,000 more lives, leading to Japan's surrender and the end of World War II. Emperor Naruhito emphasizes the importance of preserving the memory of the war's tragedy for future generations.

Following their homage at the cenotaph, the Emperor and Empress visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and engaged with atomic bombing survivors and advocates. This visit marked Naruhito's third trip this year dedicated to remembering Japan's war dead, highlighting his deep commitment to this cause.
