In an eerie repetition of history, Gujarat BJP MLA Dr. Hasmukh Patel found himself back at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital post-mortem center following the crash of Air India flight 171 on June 12. His presence at the scene recalled his days as a medical student during a similar incident in 1988.

The catastrophe struck near the Asarwa constituency, not far from Patel's Amraiwadi base. Upon arrival, amidst the chaos, Patel methodically began tag-marking bodies, a crucial step in the process, just as he had done decades before. He aided bereaved families with identification and DNA sampling the following day.

Patel's medical background, marked by an MD in Pathology, has shaped his response to such crises, interweaving duty and empathy. Following years in private practice and a foray into politics, Patel emphasizes his continued commitment to serve during such tragic events, illustrating his enduring dedication to the community.
