India has made a significant achievement by securing its place among the top 100 countries in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) rankings, according to the latest report published on Tuesday by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
The report reveals that India now ranks 99th in the 2025 SDG Index with a score of 67, marking a substantial improvement from its previous standings. In comparison, China ranks 49th with 74.4 points, and the US stands at 44th with 75.2 points.
Despite only 17 per cent of SDG targets being on track globally, East and South Asia show remarkable progress due to rapid socioeconomic development. However, global challenges persist, impeded by conflicts and limited fiscal space, as noted by the report's lead author, economist Jeffrey Sachs.
