Celebrating the 90th: The Dalai Lama's Milestone Gathering

The Tsuglagkhang temple in Mcleodganj near Dharamshala became the epicenter of the 90th birthday celebrations of the revered Tibetan spiritual figure, the 14th Dalai Lama, on a rainy Sunday. The event, organized by the Domey community, saw the Dalai Lama himself making an appearance despite inclement weather.
Historically celebrated on July 6 according to the Gregorian calendar, the Dalai Lama's birthday aligns with June 30 this year in the Tibetan lunar calendar. The Domey community, reflecting their connection to the region of Amdo, where the Dalai Lama was born, is spearheading a week-long series of events.
The Tibetan leader, arriving in a golf cart and greeted by approximately 7,000 devotees across three separate venues, expressed his enduring commitment to the well-being of both Tibetans and global communities. He highlighted his interactions with scientists and leaders worldwide and emphasized his intent to continue serving humanity.
