Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma made a compelling appeal for refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh, as well as displaced individuals from Manipur, to integrate peacefully with local residents in Mizoram. Speaking at a recent event, he emphasized the need for mutual respect, urging newcomers to adhere to local laws, social norms, and religious traditions.
Lalduhoma highlighted the presence of around 40,000 refugees who fled political and ethnic unrest in their home regions. He called for harmony between them and the Mizoram populace, urging both sides to embrace each other without discrimination while participating in community services.
However, Lalduhoma voiced concerns over the involvement of some refugees in criminal activities, warning against a backlash against the entire community. He discouraged establishing separate religious institutions and mentioned potential governmental actions for repeated legal violations, stressing integration with local organizations like the Young Mizo Association.
