Bryan Kohberger Avoids Death Penalty with Guilty Plea in Idaho Student Murders

Former criminology graduate student Bryan Kohberger has reached a plea deal that allows him to avoid the death penalty by admitting to the murder of four Idaho college students in 2022, ABC News reported.

The 30-year-old, who was studying for a doctorate in criminal justice at Washington State University, had initially pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charges that drew national attention. The incident involved three young women, who were roommates, and a young man who was dating one of them, fatally stabbed in their shared off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, in 2022.

The plea agreement provides for four consecutive life sentences for Kohberger, ensuring a conviction and eliminating the need for prolonged appeals, prosecutors revealed in a letter to the victims' families.
