In a grand celebration ahead of the 90th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama, Hollywood actor Richard Gere joined a distinguished gathering in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The festivities, which began on June 30 as per the Tibetan calendar, have attracted spiritual leaders and well-wishers globally, with events planned until early July.
Highlighting the significance of these celebrations, Gere stated, "We're here to celebrate His Holiness's 90th birthday and his enduring message of strength and compassion." At the Nechung Monastery, one of his important spiritual connections, Gere reflected on its significance to him personally, noting the deep ties between his family and the monastery.
During a key ceremony, the Nechung Oracle entered a trance state to bless the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and its leaders, underscoring its role in guiding through periods of uncertainty. CTA President Penpa Tsering explained the oracle's ceremonial relevance, seeking protection and guidance from this spiritual entity.
On June 30, Dalai Lama's brief public appearance at Tsuglagkhang, the main Tibetan temple in Dharamshala, was a reaffirmation of his dedication to peace and compassion. His influence reaches beyond Buddhism, gathering interfaith leaders like Swami Chidanand Saraswati, who praised his vision for global harmony.
Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati and Jain Acharya Lokesh Muni echoed themes of compassion and non-violence, underlining the Dalai Lama's impact on promoting peace through dialogue. As festivities continue, Dharamshala will host a three-day international Buddhist conference beginning July 2, culminating in a significant address by the Dalai Lama himself.
Additionally, the International Buddhist Confederation is set to organize a commemorative event in New Delhi on July 13, further marking this milestone of the Dalai Lama's enduring legacy. These events highlight the global anticipation surrounding his influence and the future of Tibetan traditions.
