In a remarkable find, construction workers in Manipur's Imphal West district have unearthed relics believed to be from World War 2. The discovery was made Tuesday morning during construction efforts in Langthabal.
Among the relics recovered were rusted empty cases, water bottles, grenades, and other military paraphernalia. These items were found four feet underground, indicating they were likely remnants left by soldiers during the historic Battle of Imphal in 1944. Officials suggest the items could be from camps of the Allied forces who had a stronghold in the region during the war.
The Battle of Imphal, along with the Battle of Kohima, marked a decisive victory for Allied troops against the forces of Imperial Japan. This victory was vital in halting the Japanese advance into British India, resulting in significant casualties on both sides.
