International Booker Prize-winning Hindi author Geetanjali Shree has been honored as one of the recipients of the PEN Translates award, English PEN announced this Thursday. This prestigious recognition celebrates 14 titles from diverse languages worldwide, including Shree's 'Once Elephants Lived Here', translated by Daisy Rockwell, and 'Eyes, Eyes, Eyes' by Pakistani poet Sara Shagufta.

The PEN Translates initiative, in collaboration with the SALT project at the University of Chicago, focuses on South Asian literature in English translation. Shree's collection of short stories delves into themes of memory, loss, displacement, and societal changes. The selection process highlights outstanding literary quality and the strength of publishing projects.

The winners include renowned authors from various regions, with works ranging from Palestine to Latin America, reflecting themes of genocide, postpartum experiences, and more. This year's ensemble embodies exceptional literary merit, contributing significantly to bibliodiversity by introducing voices of new and established authors to Anglophone readers.
