Eco-Friendly Festivals: Karnataka's Crackdown on PoP Idols

Karnataka Minister Eshwar Khandre issued a directive on Thursday, emphasizing strict enforcement of the ban on Plaster of Paris (PoP) Gowri and Ganesha idols.

The minister urges local authorities to promote eco-friendly clay idols as safer options to protect the environment. His announcement comes ahead of the Gowri and Ganesha festivals, scheduled for late August.

The hazardous nature of PoP idols is highlighted due to their chemical composition, which can harm water bodies and aquatic life. Khandre also initiated efforts for public awareness and community engagement to encourage safer festival practices.
