Assamese film star Nandini Kashyap has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident that led to the tragic death of a 21-year-old man. The incident occurred on Friday in Dakkhingaon, where an SUV, purportedly driven by Kashyap, struck a two-wheeler, critically injuring Samiul Haque.
Police sources reported that Kashyap was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday after being detained overnight. Deputy Commissioner of Guwahati Police (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah stated that the police are seeking a five-day remand for further investigation. Initially, the FIR did not name the actress, but non-bailable sections were added once the victim succumbed to injuries.
The accident has raised questions about police awareness, as Borah mentioned the traffic branch was initially unaware of the incident. CCTV footage captured the SUV fleeing the scene, while eyewitnesses accused Kashyap of failing to check on the victim. Forensic analysis of the involved vehicles is underway, with reports expected soon.
