American artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, renowned for biographical films such as "At Eternity's Gate" and "Basquiat", is set to be honored with the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice Film Festival. Organizers announced that Schnabel, aged 73, will receive the accolade on September 3 for his unique contributions to contemporary cinema.
The festival will also feature the out-of-competition premiere of Schnabel's latest work, "In the Hand of Dante", which includes an ensemble cast featuring Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, Al Pacino, John Malkovich, and Martin Scorsese. Schnabel remarked on never imagining he'd become a filmmaker, let alone receive such an honor.
Alberto Barbera, the festival's director, acclaimed Schnabel's body of work as "a gift to film" and described the new feature as his "most ambitious project to date". Running from August 27 to September 6, the Venice Film Festival will showcase a mix of Hollywood luminaries, Oscar winners, Asian talents, and European auteurs, all eager to kick off the awards season.
