Nintendo, the esteemed Japanese video gaming giant known for iconic franchises like Super Mario and Pokemon, has announced a remarkable 18.6% increase in net profits for the first fiscal quarter of the year. The surge is attributed to the strong demand for its latest gaming console, Switch 2.
The Kyoto-based company's profits for April through June soared to 96.03 billion yen (approximately USD 640 million), marking a significant rise from nearly 81 billion yen in the same period last year. This success was mirrored in its sales figures, which more than doubled to an impressive 572.36 billion yen (USD 3.8 billion).
Nintendo sold a record 3.5 million units of the Switch 2 within the first four days of its launch on June 5, highlighting its popularity. The new console's higher price point—USD 450 compared to the original Switch's USD 300 at launch—has further fueled sales momentum. Games like 'Mario Kart World' and 'Donkey Kong Bananza' remain particularly popular with gamers, contributing to the company's forecast of selling 15 million Switch 2 units by fiscal year-end.
