The iconic pilgrimage to Kedarnath, which was temporarily suspended, has resumed through the trek route as of Saturday. This development comes after weather conditions improved, allowing a certain level of pedestrian accessibility, according to Rudraprayag SP Akshay Prahlad Konde.
However, the main national highway to the temple remains closed between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, posing a significant challenge for visitors. In the meantime, the Public Works Department (PWD) is actively working to clear the roadway, but pilgrims currently face a 22 km trek to reach the shrine.
The halt in motor traffic followed a landslide on July 30 at the Mankutiya sliding zone. Returning pilgrims were rerouted through an alternative pedestrian path under security guidance. In light of potential weather changes, Konde advises pilgrims to stay updated on conditions to ensure a safe journey.
