The Heritage Debate: Savarkar Sadan Awaits Protection Status
The Bombay High Court was informed that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's heritage committee will soon recommend heritage status for Savarkar Sadan in Dadar. This follows a fire at the Mantralaya in 2012, which destroyed files on the property's proposed status. The issue is subject to a public interest litigation.

The Bombay High Court was informed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) that the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) has convened a meeting to discuss granting heritage status to Savarkar Sadan in Dadar. A recommendation is expected to be sent to the Maharashtra government soon.
This reconsideration comes after earlier files, including a 2010 recommendation by the BMC, were destroyed in a 2012 fire at the Mantralaya. The High Court has directed the BMC to maintain the current condition of the building, halting any redevelopment activity.
The renewed push for heritage designation stems from a public interest litigation by the Abhinav Bharat Congress, advocating for state compliance with the 2010 recommendation. The state is tasked with reviewing the committee's fresh findings before finalizing the status of the historic site.
