Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation on National Handloom Day, emphasizing the substantial progress and ''transformation'' witnessed within the sector since his administration took charge in 2014.
Expressing his sentiments, Modi stated, ''Best wishes on National Handloom Day! Today, we celebrate the rich weaving traditions that embody the creativity of our people. We take immense pride in India's handloom diversity and its vital contribution to livelihoods and prosperity.'' The data reveals that through over 2,600 exhibitions, more than 43 lakh weavers and allied workers gained direct market access, resulting in sales surpassing Rs 1,700 crore.
Additionally, the export value of handloom products exceeded Rs 21,000 crore across more than 20 countries, elevating these traditional crafts from mere Indian pride to a robust global presence.
