Two tiger cubs have succumbed at the Delhi Zoo within the last three days, marking a somber turn just a week after the facility celebrated the birth of six Bengal tiger cubs, the largest litter in two decades.
The cubs were born to a seven-year-old tigress named Aditi on August 4, in her first litter since arriving from the Gorewada rescue centre in Nagpur. Zoo director Sanjeet Kumar noted that the mother is currently nursing and feeding the surviving cubs under vigilant monitoring.
One of the deceased was the smallest cub and died in the enclosure on August 8, while another weakened cub, unable to feed, died in the zoo hospital despite intervention. The zoo is administering supplements to the mother to aid milk production as part of its efforts to ensure the remaining cubs thrive.
