In Thane city, the Dahi Handi festivities saw injuries among at least nine participants, known as govindas, some as young as five, according to civic officials. The event featured a record-breaking 10-tier human pyramid in Vartak Nagar.
Local Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra minister, Pratap Sarnaik, noted that specific instructions were given to organizers to prevent children under 14 from participating—a directive that was clearly ignored, resulting in several injuries.
Among the injured, three children received treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. Despite safety concerns and heavy rains, an impressive but dangerous 10-layer pyramid was formed, earning a prize but raising serious safety issues.
