Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's latest film, 'The Bengal Files', is embroiled in controversy even before hitting the big screen. The film, which delves into the 1946 Direct Action Day and the accompanying Calcutta killings, faced opposition during its trailer launch in Kolkata.
During an interview with ANI, actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty voiced surprise over the backlash faced by 'The Bengal Files'. Without viewing the trailer, detractors have criticized the film, which he claims sheds light on historical truths.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi on August 18, Agnihotri alleged that members of the ruling party filed FIRs against the filmmakers. Chakraborty compared the situation to the ease of distributing puffed rice in West Bengal. Despite these challenges, Agnihotri remains undeterred, vowing to release the film on September 5, 2025.
