Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg tragically lost his life in a yacht accident in Singapore, according to Shyamkanu Mahanta, Chief Organizer of the North East India Festival. The festival, set to begin on September 19, was canceled in light of this unexpected tragedy.
Originally, Garg was in Singapore to attend and perform at the festival, meeting with attendees from the local community. On the day of the accident, the festival team was in discussions with Singaporean industrialists and policymakers to promote investment in Northeast India.
Mahanta stated that despite their business engagements, a call was received from Garg's manager about the accident. The incident not only shocked the North East India Festival team but also led to an outpouring of grief, prompting the cancellation of the event.
