In an unexpected tragedy, acclaimed Assamese singer Zubeen Garg lost his life during a yacht excursion in Singapore, according to Shyamkanu Mahanta, Chief Organiser of the North East India Festival.
Contrary to initial reports of a scuba diving accident, it was later clarified that the mishap occurred during a yacht trip with members of the local Assamese community. Despite receiving immediate medical attention and CPR, Garg was pronounced dead at Singapore General Hospital.
The festival, which was set to begin on September 19, has been cancelled due to this unfortunate incident. The sudden demise has left fans and organizers in deep shock, marking a significant loss for the Assamese music fraternity. Garg was in Singapore to participate in the festival and engage with the community.
