James, aged 57, was aboard a Cirrus SR22T that went down "under unknown circumstances," according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The crash, which occurred in Franklin, resulted in no survivors, as stated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Alongside James were Melody Carole and Meryl Maxwell Wilson, both of whom also perished.
James' significant contributions to the music industry were recognized when he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020. Originally from Oklahoma City, James left medical school to pursue a career in music, and ultimately left a lasting impact with his songwriting prowess.
