In Dehradun, heavy rainfall on Thursday evening threatened to wash away the Dussehra festivities. Undeterred, thousands of enthusiastic participants braved the nearly hour-long downpour at the Parade Ground. Amidst the rain, they witnessed the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhkaran being set ablaze, although the weather prevented Ravana's effigy from fully burning.
The rain, commencing just before 5 PM, caused a stir among the crowd as they sought cover under chairs and plastic sheets. The showers not only drenched attendees but also inflicted damage on the makeshift Lanka structure. Vendors, anticipating strong sales, were instead left with disappointing outcomes. Food vendor Sohel lamented, "We were expecting good earnings today, but the rain ruined everything."
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, addressing the soaked gathering, reflected on the significance of the Vijayadashami festival. Despite the weather challenges, he highlighted Dussehra's testament to righteousness, truth, and values, urging the community to vanquish metaphorical Ravanas that linger in society today.
