The Delhi court has imposed an interim stay on the registration of an FIR against actor and former Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan, along with film producer Debashish Das Gupta, who are embroiled in an alleged cheating case. The case was initiated by a private company, accusing the two of violating terms of a film-related investment.
Additional Sessions Judge Vishal Singh heard the revision petition, challenging an April 8 magistrate's order for the FIR registration. The contested order arose from a complaint by Zenith Media Scope Pvt Ltd, which invested Rs 2 crore in a Bengali movie produced by Das Gupta, claiming breaches in their MoU. Despite the film's commercial flop, Gupta reimbursed roughly Rs 78.25 lakh.
The court ruled that the registration of the FIR and any related investigation should be paused until further notice. The matter will be revisited on May 28, allowing time to assess the validity of the allegations against Nusrat Jahan and Debashish Das Gupta further.
