In a bid to calm the uproar in Maharashtra, Dhirendra Shastri, head of Bageshwar Dgham, issued an apology for comments regarding Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shastri stated that his words had been distorted by social media users.
The controversy stemmed from Shastri's claim that Shivaji Maharaj wanted to abdicate his duties, tired from constant warfare, misleadingly implying a lack of reverence. Shastri insisted his respect remains intact and attributed sociopolitical influence to Hindvi Swaraj ideology.
Further igniting debate, Shastri's remarks encouraging parents to raise children with RSS-inspired ideologies faced political pushback. Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati and other leaders criticized Shastri, calling for event bans. Maharashtra Congress President alleged a BJP-led historical distortion attempt, while urging national leaders to address the issue.
