Family members of B Sashidharan, a valiant naval sailor who lost his life during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, honored his memory at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, as confirmed by a defence spokesperson on Sunday.
Sasidharan's widow, Ponnamma P, and son, Sujith Kumar S, visited the memorial to pay tribute to his lasting sacrifice. The occasion commemorated the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces, particularly those who served on the ill-fated INS Khukri, torpedoed by a Pakistani submarine on December 9, 1971.
Despite the perilous conditions, Sashidharan exhibited extraordinary courage, persisting in his mission with steadfast determination before making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. The family's visit highlighted the enduring gratitude of the country for the sacrifices of its service members. Personnel from the armed forces stationed in New Delhi also attended the ceremony.
