In a bid to rejuvenate the Odia film industry, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed plans for a special cinema policy during a seminar on Friday. The policy aims to bolster Odia cinema's unique identity by pushing filmmakers to explore themes rooted in local culture and history.
Majhi emphasized the importance of original storytelling, encouraging content based on Lord Jagannath, Kalinga's maritime history, and rural Odisha's struggles. Plans for a film training institute and film tourism initiatives, including promoting Chilika and Konark as shooting locations, were also discussed.
Accusing the prior government of neglect, Majhi assured attendees of state-backed financial support. With the centenary of Odisha's statehood approaching, the policy seeks to bring Odia cinematic pride to a global audience, highlighted by a proposed international film festival.
