In a strategic move to address challenges facing the Tamil film industry, veteran actor and politician Kamal Haasan held a meeting on Saturday with Tamil Nadu's newly elected Chief Minister, Vijay. Haasan's visit, marked by photographs shared on social media platform X, underscored his commitment to revitalizing Tamil cinema.

During their discussion, Haasan presented a list of six key demands, emphasizing the necessity of government support. Among the highlights was a proposal for a state-owned OTT platform offering affordable access to Tamil films, independent cinema, and documentaries. This initiative aims to foster greater cultural outreach and accessibility.

Other urgent requests included a production incentive of up to 10% for films predominantly shot in Tamil Nadu, the abolishment of a 4% Local Body Entertainment Tax, formation of a specialized anti-piracy unit, allowance for five daily cinema screenings, and an eight-week exclusive movie theater release window before OTT availability. Kamal Haasan's outreach comes after Chief Minister Vijay's recent induction, signaling a potential new phase for Tamil Nadu politics and cultural policy reforms.
