The Indian Army undertook the reconstruction of a long-closed primary school at Gunji in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, which lies along the India-China border, on Monday. This initiative aims to bolster ties with local communities in these frontier areas and was launched under 'Operation Sadbhavana'.
In addition to the school, a cultural center was also constructed at Dharchula for the Rung community. This community, which resides in the Vyans, Darma, and Chaudas valleys, stands to benefit from these new infrastructure developments. The Gunji primary school had been closed since 1995 due to a lack of students following migration.
According to Village Pradhan Vimla Gunjyal, the army's efforts have seen eight children enrolling in the newly established school, with soldiers currently acting as instructors. The army allocated Rs 12 lakh for educational purposes, and future operations depend on state education department approval. This initiative also includes constructing community facilities to support local cultural practices and celebrations.
