The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology is gearing up for a pivotal meeting on May 26 to address critical aspects of the telecom sector. Scheduled at 11:00 AM in the Parliament House Annexe, this meeting will delve into the intricacies of telecommunications.

The primary agenda involves discourse from the Ministry of Communications and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on 'Quality of Service (QoS) Standards and Consumer Protection in Telecom Sector,' with a particular emphasis on net neutrality. Strengthening its global stance, India recently participated in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council 2026 in Geneva, where it successfully campaigned for hosting the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in 2030.

At the forefront of these international negotiations was a delegation led by Mukesh Kumar, Deputy Director General of International Relations, DoT, alongside India's UN representatives. India's formal proposal to host the 2030 conference advanced smoothly through Council discussions, setting the stage for its anticipated approval in Doha come November 2026. India's proactive involvement at ITU events underscores its commitment and emerging leadership in global telecommunications and digital governance.
