Race Against Time: Cave Rescue Mission in Laos
Efforts are underway in central Laos to rescue seven villagers trapped in a cave due to flash flooding after a search for gold. Despite previous warnings, the group entered the cave but got trapped when heavy rains obstructed the exit. Thai divers have joined the rescue efforts.
In central Laos, rescuers are in a desperate race against time to reach seven villagers trapped in a cave, following an ill-fated quest for gold. The group had entered the Xaisomboun province cave on May 19, only to be caught by flash floods triggered by heavy rains.
Bounkham Luanglath, leader of Laos' Rescue Volunteer for People, reported that out of the group, one person managed to escape before the cave exit was blocked and promptly alerted authorities. The fate of the remaining seven individuals remains undisclosed.
Despite repeated safety warnings against entering the gold-laden but dangerous cave, villagers continue to explore it. Thai rescue divers have arrived on-site, navigating the flooded passages to locate the trapped villagers, as the Laos government remains tight-lipped on developments.
