Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna has formally communicated with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Justice Yashwant Varma, sharing the Supreme Court-appointed panel's report on alleged cash found at his residence. The report, dated May 3, includes Justice Varma's response from May 6.

The Supreme Court's communication stated that Chief Justice of India, under the In-House Procedure, has written to both the President and Prime Minister, enclosing the panel's report. As per procedure, the report is sent to the government if an executive action against the judge is deemed necessary. The inquiry report remains undisclosed publicly.

Earlier this week, the internal inquiry panel submitted its findings to Chief Justice Khanna on May 4. The committee consisted of Justices Sheel Nagu, GS Sandhawalia, and Anu Sivaraman. Justice Varma's unusual induction into the Allahabad High Court without a public oath ceremony sparked controversy amidst ongoing investigations.

The transfer of Justice Varma from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court faced skepticism, with a Public Interest Litigation urging a delayed swearing-in. The legal community, including the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, criticized the appointment, calling for transparency in judicial appointments.

Justice Varma's future at the Allahabad High Court remains uncertain as legal observers monitor the situation, raising broader concerns about judicial integrity and appointment processes. Justice Varma, with a law degree from Rewa University, has a career spanning civil law, serving as special counsel for the Allahabad High Court.
