The Railway Protection Force (RPF) escort team onboard the Tripura Sundari Express made a crucial intervention, recovering a cache of illegal firearms that posed a potential threat to public safety, according to official sources.

Under strict directives to maintain heightened vigilance, the RPF personnel discovered eight handmade iron pistols and sixteen magazines during a routine check. The discovery, made on Thursday, involved two suspicious pithu bags left on the upper berth of a general coach as the train journeyed from Badarpur to Agartala, a statement revealed. The items were wrapped in brown cello tape, suggesting a possible attempt to smuggle illicit arms.

The vigilant RPF team, based at the Agartala Post, swiftly acted upon finding the abandoned luggage, confirming the presence of the weapons. Transported safely to the RPF Post in Agartala, the case is now with the GRPS Agartala for further inquiry. The operation underscores the critical role of RPF in safeguarding rail passengers and countering criminal activities onboard trains.
