In a significant breakthrough, the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) arrested two individuals on Friday suspected of advancing the agenda of the banned terrorist outfit Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The arrests of Ajmol Hossain and Saheb Ali Khan took place in the Birbhum district during simultaneous raids conducted on May 8 and 9, 2025.

Authorities allege that the suspects were instrumental in disseminating JMB's ideology through encrypted channels and were plotting to compromise India's security by targeting key installations and individuals. The STF disclosed that their network aimed to undermine national sovereignty.

Ajmol Hossain is accused of having prior links with jihadi factions, allegedly having attempted to enter Bangladesh for similar purposes. Both suspects were reportedly heavily involved in weapons procurement and radical recruitment efforts, seeking to bolster the "Ghazwatul Hind" cause. A court appearance is pending, with the police requesting extended remand for further interrogation and network deconstruction. Meanwhile, in a related investigation, Kolkata Police's STF arrested two individuals for holding illegal firearms, intensifying their clampdown on potential threats.
