China-CELAC Summit: Strengthening Ties Amid Trade Tensions
China will host the China-CELAC Forum aiming to enhance ties with Latin American countries amid trade tensions with the U.S. The summit will see significant discussions on trade, investment, and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, with major participation from countries like Brazil, Colombia, and Chile.

In a strategic move to bolster influence in Latin America, China is set to host the China-CELAC Forum this week, gathering key Latin American trade partners for substantial discussions on trade and cooperation. The meeting comes as efforts to mitigate the ongoing Sino-American trade war intensify.
Led by President Xi Jinping, the summit will see a high-level engagement, including the presidents of Brazil, Colombia, and Chile. The China-CELAC Forum aims to solidify cooperation in trade and infrastructure, particularly under the Belt and Road Initiative. Bilateral trade between China and the CELAC bloc soared to $427 billion from January to September 2024.
Meanwhile, tensions over trade policies continue between China and the U.S., with both sides agreeing to initiate a new economic dialogue following recent trade discussions. China's outreach extends to other regions, striving to form alliances against unilateral trade practices by the U.S., showing China's commitment to multilateralism.
