The 165th Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home & Hearth) Assam marked the 84th Assam Regiment Raising Day with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Regiment's War Memorial in Babupara Traffic Point, Imphal. Established on June 15, 1941, the Assam Regiment was initially formed in Shillong to counter the Japanese threat during World War II.

The regiment draws its strength from the diverse martial communities of North East India, including the Hill Tribes like the Meiteis, Nagas, Kukis, Mizos, Assamese, and Gorkhas, showcasing the region's bravery. Under the leadership of Lt Col Ross Howman, the 1st Battalion of the Assam Regiment made its mark during World War II in the Burma Campaign, strongly opposing the Japanese forces at Jessami, Kohima, and Arakan, earning six battle honors and the Theatre Honour 'Burma.'

To commemorate the 84th Raising Day and honor the regiment's sacrifice, the 165th INF Bn (TA) (H&H) Assam hosted a well-attended wreath-laying ceremony at the Assam Regiment War Memorial at Babupara Traffic Point. The event saw the presence of Assam Regiment veterans, serving Indian Army members, and dignitaries like Deputy Inspector General, Assam Rifles (S) Brigadier Nepraj Sharma, and Colonel Samir Bharti (retd). On Saturday, the Assam Rifles conducted firing drills with key support weapons at the Darranga Field Firing Range in Assam, underscoring the importance of maintaining high operational readiness according to a statement by the Assam Rifles.
