Tripura's Tribal Welfare Minister, Bikash Debbarma, on Tuesday praised the State's tribal communities for their notable achievements in cultivating mangoes and pineapples. Speaking at the inauguration of a Pineapple and Mango Festival organized by NABARD, he highlighted the region's agricultural potential.

Gandachhara subdivision in Dhalai district is emerging as a significant mango production hub, especially noted for its rare Miyazaki variety. With 1,386 hectares dedicated to mango cultivation, Dhalai has earned the title of 'fruit district' in Tripura, producing approximately 7,055 metric tonnes annually.

The State, with 12,095 hectares under pineapple cultivation, is making strides in increasing the global reach of its 'Queen' variety, supported by a Rs 132.62-crore central government project. To meet export standards, enhanced packaging and year-round production are being prioritized.
