The Supreme Court on Thursday transferred the investigation concerning Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram's suspension, linked to an alleged abduction case, to the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID). This decision overturns a previous directive from the Madras High Court to take action against Jayaram, as ruled by a bench comprising Justices Ujjwal Bhuyan and Manmohan.

The apex court has instructed that a different judge from the Madras High Court now hears the case, moving away from the bench that previously issued directives against the senior police officer. Just the day before, the Supreme Court had mandated the Tamil Nadu government to respond to the suspension of ADGP Jayaram, who is embroiled in the abduction case.

The Supreme Court voiced its concerns regarding the suspension's demoralizing effect, especially after the officer's involvement in the case investigation was confirmed. Tamil Nadu's government has been ordered to submit their formal response by the following day. The senior officer's counsel reported that Jayaram, who was detained on June 16, was released on the subsequent Tuesday at 5 PM, and has since been suspended by the State.

The state's counsel clarified that the ADGP was not arrested but noted the Madras High Court's oral suggestion for his arrest concerning his alleged role in a teenager's kidnapping during an anticipatory bail plea with other accused individuals involved.

Consequently, the senior officer sought relief from the Supreme Court regarding his potential arrest, bringing his plea before the court's bench on Tuesday. (ANI)
