India has taken a significant step toward defense self-reliance with the commissioning of INS Arnala, the first indigenously designed Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC). The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) supplied all the necessary special steel for the vessel, marking a milestone in the nation's import substitution efforts.

The Ministry of Steel announced that SAIL, a Maharatna PSU, also met the steel requirements for seven additional ASW-SWC corvettes currently under construction by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). This collaboration underlines SAIL's vital role in India's defense indigenization journey, supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative to decrease foreign dependency.

The commissioning ceremony for INS Arnala, held at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, was presided over by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. The advanced vessel, delivered under a Public-Private Partnership, is equipped for various naval operations, enhancing India's coastal defense capabilities amidst rising regional tensions.
