State-owned power giant NTPC has embarked on an ambitious green initiative by introducing five hydrogen fuel cell buses to SIDCO, a Ladakh administration undertaking. This momentous step designates India's first deployment of commercial hydrogen buses in the Union Territory, enhancing its shift towards sustainable energy solutions.
The hydrogen buses, delivered yesterday, are pioneering global efforts in green mobility, operating at the highest altitude for such technology in the world. This move follows NTPC's launch of the world's first hydrogen fuelling and green hydrogen mobility station in Leh, set at an impressive altitude of 11,562 feet above sea level.
NTPC aims to mitigate 350 MT of carbon emissions annually through this project while concurrently generating 230 MT of pure oxygen for the atmosphere, a contribution equivalent to planting 13,000 trees. As India's largest integrated power utility, NTPC is committed to ramping up its renewable energy capacity, targeting 60 GW by the year 2032.
