Civil Aviation Ministry Strengthens Flight Preparedness amidst Rising Disruptions

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu conducted a comprehensive video conference with airport directors across the nation, focusing on enhancing ground-level preparedness and passenger support systems. This meeting was organized in response to recent disruptions in flight schedules due to accidents, weather changes, and geopolitical tensions.

The meeting emphasized the importance of close coordination with airlines to swiftly address passenger inconveniences. Additionally, airports were instructed to ensure the availability of necessities, such as food and seating, for passengers during delays or congestion. Deployment of adequate personnel at vital touchpoints was also prioritized to efficiently manage passenger complaints, as per the Civil Aviation Ministry's release on Thursday.

The conference also highlighted directives for airport directors to support airlines facing operational challenges by offering gate reassignments and logistical aid. To maintain airport safety, emphasis was placed on reinforcing wildlife hazard management measures. The Minister also conducted a high-level meeting with Air India's leadership to discuss operational continuity and passenger safety amidst geopolitical developments affecting European and Middle Eastern airspaces.

In light of aircraft shortages, Air India announced temporary scaling down of operations and flight restructuring, with affected passengers offered rebookings or refunds. The Civil Aviation Ministry urged improvements in ground-level coordination and passenger communication at airports to handle cancellations and delays effectively.

Follow-up meetings with senior airline officials from Spice Jet, Indigo, and Akasa evaluated fleet performance and passenger experience, highlighting the need for consistent reviews of operational processes. An inquiry into an Air India crash near Ahmedabad has commenced, with a multi-disciplinary team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) leading the investigation.

Collaboration with international aviation bodies is underway to decode the flight recorders, as the AAIB navigates the investigative process with transparency and adherence to protocols. The Aviation Ministry remains committed to ensuring passenger safety and urges stakeholders to avoid speculative conclusions concerning ongoing investigations.
