In a dramatic turn of events, Uttar Pradesh Police apprehended three suspected robbers after a tense encounter at the Ganga Ghat in Unnao district on Friday. The police, responding to a tip-off, intercepted the suspects as they attempted to divide stolen jewellery among themselves, a police statement confirmed.
Akhilesh Singh, Additional Superintendent Of Police, Unnao, explained that the suspects opened fire upon sighting the police team, prompting a retaliatory response. The exchange resulted in injuries to two of the accused, who were subsequently admitted to the District Hospital for treatment. The third suspect was apprehended while trying to escape.
The police recovered all the stolen jewellery and two cartridges from the suspects, ensuring all necessary legal measures would be pursued. This incident took place only days after a separate event in Mathura, where a building collapse led to three deaths, including two children, due to alleged negligent excavation work, underlining a challenging fortnight for local law enforcement.
