After a five-year suspension, the revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Sikkim has recommenced, with the first group of 36 pilgrims flagged off by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur at Nathula Pass on Friday.
Governor Mathur praised the resumption as a moment of pride for Sikkim and a restoration of heritage and goodwill between India and China. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the tight coordination between the Sikkim Government, ITBP, and Indian Army for making the journey possible.
Sikkim's Tourism Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia highlighted the reopening as a historic event enhancing the state's tourism value. Pilgrims underwent rigorous medical screenings and acclimatization. This yatra is facilitated by the Ministry of External Affairs, STDC, and ITBP, ensuring a safe pilgrimage journey.
