The beleaguered British Royal Navy F-35B fighter jet, which made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram airport, has been grounded due to a hydraulic failure, according to defense officials on Friday. The aircraft might need to be transported back on a military aircraft if the issue persists despite incoming maintenance efforts.

Officials disclosed that a UK Navy F-35 experienced an emergency landing due to low fuel before developing hydraulic complications that prevented it from taking off again. Despite initial maintenance attempts, a larger team is expected to assist with the recovery, a measure supported by the Indian Air Force, which is prepared to refuel and possibly facilitate military transport if necessary.

The Indian Air Force confirmed that the Royal Navy F-35B was forced to land at Thiruvananthapuram on June 14. The jet was operating from the UK aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales. The IAF revealed that upon diversion declaration, the F-35B was detected and cleared for landing by their IACCS network, with the IAF pledging comprehensive support for the jet's rectification and safe return.
