Ujjain Police Crackdown: Nine Fake Websites Duping Devotees Shut Down

In a significant move against cybercrime, Ujjain Police have dismantled nine fake websites preying on devotees of the Mahakaleshwar Temple. These fraudulent sites were masquerading as booking platforms for accommodations at Shri Mahakaleshwar Bhakt Niwas, an official revealed on Saturday.

The crackdown was sparked by a slew of complaints from devotees who, upon arrival, discovered their online bookings were nonexistent, having fallen victim to fraud. Reacting promptly, authorities launched an investigation into the matter, aiming to protect devotees from further scams.

Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma disclosed that both governmental and non-governmental setups related to Shri Mahakal Temple are under constant scrutiny. After fraud complaints involving online payments surfaced, police collaborated with Bhakt Niwas's IT department for potential website redesign to avert future scams. The IT cell reported fake social media profiles, ensuring the closure of deceptive accounts and informed tech giants about the fraudulent activities.
