Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary, lauding him as a 'distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary visionary.' Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at a gathering in Lucknow, Adityanath emphasized Mookerjee's contributions to India's early industrial policies as a member of the country's first Cabinet after independence. He hailed Mookerjee as a pivotal figure who envisioned 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat,' and noted his opposition to Article 370, which accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Mookerjee's resistance to Article 370 and his leadership in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh marked a new political beginning in India. Adityanath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling Mookerjee's vision by abrogating Article 370 in 2019, thus aligning with the Indian Constitution's democratic values.
