In a high-stakes anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles successfully intercepted and seized 161.2 grams of heroin, with a staggering estimated value of Rs 1.209 crore, in Mizoram's Champhai district. The operation unfolded in the Zotlang area on June 20, 2025, marking a significant step in efforts to thwart drug trafficking along the sensitive India-Myanmar border.

A statement from Assam Rifles confirmed the recovery of 13 units of Heroin No-4, weighing 161.200 grams, during the operation in Zotlang. The seized heroin, along with the individuals apprehended, was transferred to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai, Mizoram, for comprehensive investigation and legal proceedings.

In a parallel crackdown on illicit smuggling, Assam Rifles seized 170 cartons of prohibited foreign cigarettes near Chandrapur, Agartala, Tripura, on June 18. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 5.1 crores in the international market, has been handed over to Customs Department officials, symbolizing a robust defense against smuggling activities. Earlier, on May 27, Assam Rifles, in conjunction with Assam Police and the Anti-Rhino Force Intelligence Unit, confiscated 648 grams of heroin valued at Rs 3.5 crore in the Cachar district of Assam. These operations highlight the relentless pursuit of drug and smuggling eradication along key interstate and international routes.
